Weather: “Sunshine, fading behind increasing clouds followed by afternoon showers.” That’s what the weather report on my pager says almost every day. I guess when they’re not really sure what the weather is going to do, or if they’re predicting more than two days out, they press the “apply default forecast” button and all the angles are covered. Sun, clouds, rain…no matter what really happens they can point to it and say “Hey, did we call that or what?”

Leo: “Be prepared for more domestic excitement than usual.” Now how am I supposed to read THAT? Is this good excitement or bad excitement? Winning the lottery or the condo burning down? Either one would be exciting and likely to cause hysteria and a lot of screaming. Our domestic lives aren’t usually very exciting, especially this week, so it won’t take much to push us right over the edge into a high state of mild stimulus.

News: “High court probes Arthur Anderson.” Ouch. Oh, “High court probes Arthur Anderson TRIAL.” Bad spot for a line break.

This weekend we’re going up near Pinconning to Camp Fishtales. It’s a small summer camp for disabled kids that’s available for rent during the off-season. Our group of friends from Bay City and Caro rent it for a weekend every year for Cyndi’s birthday party. It’s always a drunken hoot, full of far too much eating and drinking, dirty jokes, maniacal laughter, and walks in the woods.

This is also the opening weekend for Kung Fu Hustle and Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, but they’re not going anywhere for awhile so that’s ok if I don’t see them this weekend. I’m not feeling too confident about the early reviews of Hitchhiker’s. Only 59% on RottenTomatoes.com with 10 reviews so far. I’ll still go see it of course but I’m kind of wary now.

Today the combat overhaul for Star Wars Galaxies goes live. Consensus on the forums is that a lot of people are very unhappy with it, but I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve had a chance to try it. I’m going to take the approach that the saner voices have called for: pretend it’s an entirely new game to learn, where combat is concerned. I did a short check on one of my characters this morning while responding to a work page, and I can’t use my best pistol anymore because my Combat Level (totally new feature) is too low. Weapon certifications used to be based on what skill level you had with a weapon, and if you used a weapon you weren’t certified with, you suffered horrible penalties. Now, certification is based on your Combat Level regardless of how your skills are trained, so if your CL is high enough you can use a weapon you have no skill points allocated to. For example, a Rifleman/Squad Leader with no Pistols skill can use a pistol that I can’t, even though I have Pistols 4. I think this is total BS but I’ll try it and see what happens when the dust settles. The screaming of the outraged player community is just getting started. Sony Online did throw us all a bone in that they’re allowing a total skill respec (for combat skills) every 12 hours for at least the next two weeks so everyone can try things out before they cancel their accounts.

I also discovered that my City of Heroes account was deactivated for non-payment, but I have no idea what’s up with that. The credit card I had assigned to it is my bank debit card so I don’t know why there was a problem. I can’t restart it until tomorrow when I get paid so I guess I won’t be playing CoH tonight. Oh well, I planned on spending time after work and running to curse SWG anyway.
