While doing the “23rd Post” meme, I went back to the beginning of my LJ entries and started laughing when I read the second one, from December 2003. It was inspiring to know that my low opinion of Florida has remained consistent for at least the last 1.5 years:
“I hate Florida. The whole place seems dirty somehow, no matter how
clean and upscale parts of it may be. Development proceeds at a
breakneck pace, yet it still feels like the swamp it once was, as if
the concrete and strip malls were merely a thin veneer over the muck.
There are too many old people there. It’s depressing, like a human
version of the Elephant Graveyard. Everyone goes there to die, and
instead of ivory tusks they leave behind double-wide trailers and
40-year-old bicycles. My friend Chris, who was from Ft. Myers, used to
say that Florida was full of nothing but ‘newlyweds and nearly-deads’.”
After hanging up til 2:30am last night chatting in City of Heroes (I never did actually do any playing), I dragged my ass to bed and woke myself up sneezing a couple times. This gave me extra incentive to get the ducts cleaned, which is now scheduled for 9am Monday morning. Apparently this will be a really thorough process, since they’ll be there for 5-6 hours. Hopefully at least one of the cleaners is easy on the eyes, and they better do the office vents first, so I can at least get to the computer while they’re doing all this. I’m kind of curious to see exactly how much crud comes out of the ductwork. One of the places I called who described the whole process said to “expect 10-15 pounds of material”. Wow.
Last night Aaron and I met mrimp and his friend JD from San Diego for dinner at J. Alexander in Somerset, then Eric, JD and I did some clothes shopping while Aaron headed home. I got out of Express Gay with a pair of dark chinos, a polo, and a really gay shirt, for only $60 total. The twink helping us was really cute too, but he was the only one in there that was, surprisingly.
Over the speakers they were playing the soundtrack for 1988 or something, and I heard “Killing Jar” by Siouxsie & the Banshees, which I don’t think I’ve heard since the early 90s. When I got home I dug out my CD book from under the TV but, alas, “Peep Show” was one of the CDs stolen from my truck in the Backstreet parking lot years ago. Thank Apple for iTunes!
This morning my sinuses chased me out of bed toward the kleenex at about 9:30, and after staggering around in a daze for a bit, I headed to CVS to get some scrips filled plus some odds and ends. I spent a couple hours finding a duct cleaning company to come out Monday, so now I just have to go to the gym, wash the car, come home, shower, and dress, so I can leave at 4pm to drive to Farmington, in Friday work traffic, to meet Aaron to drive to Ann Arbor.
So much for a relaxing vacation day. At least I’ve gotten some things accomplished.
EDIT: Car wash is not happening. Maybe tomorrow I’ll put brokenbryan to work washing the car with me. I’m sure he’ll love that, won’t ya Bryan?
1. List one of your strangest rituals you do when you’re alone.
— I frequently have mental conversations with myself, as if I’m speaking to someone wiser, more organized, and more perceptive than I am. This “other” also acts like my personal Jiminy Cricket, and lectures me when I’m being mean, narrow-minded, or petulant.
2. List one thing that nobody knows about you except YOU.
— After the Navy and coming back from Washington state, I went to John Casablancas Modelling School. Reality set in shortly afterward.
bdsm: Relatively recent interest for me, and I’m more into the “d” part than anything else. I know sometimes it’s hard to tell though…
daoc: Short for Dark Age of Camelot, which was an online game I was obsessed with for over 3 years. Not an interest anymore though.
hibernia: See #2 above. The realm in DAoC my main character originated from, which was a mythic version of ancient Ireland.
magic: The “real” thing, not stage magic. Or maybe I meant Magic:The Gathering, the card game; I can’t remember. Neither of them are really an interest anymore beyond occasional nostalgia. I really need to update my interests list…
movies: Mostly sci-fi, comedy, some action. Right this second I’m hard-pressed to remember the last really good movie I saw.
online games: Currently playing World of Warcraft, City of Villains beta, and (sometimes) EVE Online.
rock climbing: Sadly, I haven’t gone climbing in well over a year now. Planet Rock in Pontiac is a bit too far away for regular trips and even though Lifetime Fitness has a climbing wall, they charge too much to use it.
sushi: Hai! Need I say more?
world of warcraft: I held out against playing this for a long time, but when my ex said he wasn’t playing it anymore, it was too easy to take over his account and make my own characters.
